What Is the Right Size?

Choosing the dimension of your single-dose bag (sachet or stick-pack) can be misleading especially when the choice is made without considering some critical factors.

The most critical factors are:

  • The volume of the dose.
  • The type of product to dose.

THE VOLUME

First of all, the volume inevitably affects the size of the bag. Depending on the specific weight of the product, the volume changes and consequently allows for different bag sizes. With equal doses, the higher the specific weight of a product the lower the volume and vice versa.

THE TYPE OF PRODUCT

Switching to a more technical topic, the type of product also affects the choice of the size. The first distinction has to be made between liquids and solids.
Especially with liquids, “larger” bags (not too full) are desirable considering the possible “splash” that might happen when dosing at high speeds. With bags that are too small, this “splash” might end up in between the sealing area. On the contrary viscous products allow for “smaller” bags (rather full).
With solids, the main concerns depend on the physical properties, for example dustiness. In this case, the handling of the product discharge changes in order to guarantee the smallest size (whenever required).
