The choice between the two is mainly dictated by carton design and layout needs.
Horizontal cartoners are aimed to work with pre cut and pre-glued folded cartons. These machines open the folded pre-glued carton, insert the sachets/stick packs in it and close the flaps. On horizontal cartoners the bags are loaded into the cartons sideways, grouped in vertical piles or placed “on edge”.
Forming and closing machines are designed to work with pre cut flat blanks. These machines form the carton with the aid of a mold, fix it with some glue, insert the sachets/stick packs and then close the lid, tucking it in or with glue. On forming and closing machines the bags are loaded into the cartons from above.
