This year marks 40 years since Universal Pack’s first pharmaceutical installation in the United States.

The milestone reflects long-term collaboration with pharmaceutical manufacturers and a continuous focus on performance, quality, and reliability.

To recognize the anniversary, Healthcare Packaging featured the Sachet Line for Pharmaceutical Powders. The article presents the complete Elite-class line, including a seamless transfer concept and a continuous-motion end of line innovation.

Why a multinational pharmaceutical company chose Theta

According to the article, the company selected the 4 side seal Theta solution for three reasons:

  • It delivers high output, a compact footprint, and strong flexibility.
  • The vertical platform reaches horizontal-machine performance while reducing space requirements.
  • The selection also prioritized sachet integrity and premium aesthetics.

These factors play a critical role in pharmaceutical packaging.

Sachet quality: sealing integrity, appearance, and process stability

Healthcare Packaging reports that seal integrity is supported by:

  • A new horizontal sealing concept
  • A liquid cooling system for sealing components, designed to reduce stress on film and product during dosing and sealing

These features support stable processing. They also help deliver consistent performance and visual quality.

Precision for pharmaceutical powders and smarter handling of rejects

For dosing accuracy and control, the line includes a multi-lane checkweigher. It uses high resolution load cells and provides direct feedback to individual dosing lanes.

A station for manual reintegration of rejected sachets supports efficiency and helps reduce waste.

Cleaning and changeovers remain straightforward. An extractable dosing system can move to an ergonomic height, which speeds up routine operations and improves operator comfort.

Flexibility by design: formats, batches, and fast changeovers

The Theta line adapts to sachet and carton format variations. This capability suits contract manufacturers and brand owners managing multiple SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit) and batch sizes.

Toolless adjustments simplify daily operation and shorten format changes.

The innovation behind Synthesis Theta: continuous-motion end of line

While the Theta platform is well established, the article highlights a key innovation for laxative powders. The full line introduces the R80 Counting & Stacking Unit, Universal Pack’s first unit designed for continuous motion in this application.

The complete line includes four main modules:

Before cartoning, the system can compact sachet stacks. This improves stability and can increase the number of sachets per carton. The SC80 then synchronizes transfer to maintain speed and line output, followed by a continuous-motion cartoner.
