Help Universal Pack build a Well in Ethiopia

Africa has long been one of the key markets for Universal Pack and an important part of our philosophy. For this reason, for several years now, we have chosen to write a new chapter in the history of Universal Pack’s values on this vast continent.

Universal Pack will build a Well in one of the poorest and most beautiful areas of Africa.

Why a Well

Universal Pack machines are distributed across the African continent and are installed in both major cities and rural areas. Our long-standing relationships with these territories have allowed us to understand the strength, values, and needs of the people who live there. At the same time, they have made us aware of some of the major daily challenges these communities face.

Building a well in a rural area can help solve two fundamental issues that deeply affect a community’s life: mobility and water supply. Access to clean drinking water close to home prevents residents especially women from walking long distances every day just to collect a small amount of water for their families.

A local water source also means better agricultural opportunities, improved hygiene and health conditions, and a significant reduction in infant mortality.

Where

Gereb is a village in the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia. Over the centuries, this region has suffered extensive deforestation, leaving it almost completely without trees and green areas.

With the support and expertise of Progetto Familia Onlus, a well-established nonprofit organization with strong experience in Ethiopia, we will drill a well 80 meters deep. This well will provide clean, drinkable water to around 1,000 people, including approximately 250 families and 550 students attending the local school.

Next future

The well will be built in the four months following Interpack 2017 and will represent the first step in what we hope to do for the Dendera community.

After bringing water to the village, we would like to expand the local school and build a healthcare facility.

Doing it together will allow us to do it better and sooner.
